About us
The research building under construction aims to break down the strict professional and spatial separation of cardiology and neurology and enable an integrative experimental and translational research concept. The aim is to research the cross-organ causes of common diseases of the cardiovascular and nervous systems. The aim of the new building is to bring together two of the main areas of research at the University Medical Center Göttingen, cardiovascular medicine and neurosciences, in order to jointly investigate the complex interaction of the heart and brain. Looking at the heart and brain in parallel also promises to yield a great deal of new knowledge because both systems have fundamental molecular and functional similarities. It is still unclear which mechanisms underlie these interactions.
Translational research is also an important goal: results from basic research should be transferred to clinical trials as quickly as possible and made available for the treatment of patients.

Heart & Brain diseases: integrative research across organs
The Research Training Group (RTG) 2824 "Heart and Brain Diseases: Integrative Research Across Organ Boundaries", based at the Heart & Brain Center Göttingen, aims to expand the cross-organ approach through integrative cutting-edge research in the field of heart and brain diseases in combination with top-class training of doctoral students* in the natural sciences and medicine.
It will be funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) from April 2023.
