Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

Welcome to the website of the Heart & Brain Center Göttingen (HBCG) at the University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG).

Our center is dedicated to researching the cross-organ causes of common diseases of the cardiovascular and nervous systems. By bringing together the two main research areas of UMG in one location, we provide a unique platform for investigating the complex interplay between the heart and the brain.

Focusing simultaneously on the brain and the heart allows us to gain important insights, as both systems share fundamental molecular and functional similarities. Despite these similarities, the exact mechanisms underlying the interactions between the heart and the brain remain largely unexplored.

Our primary goal is translational research: We aim to ensure that findings from basic research are transferred into clinical trials as quickly as possible in order to provide patients with the best possible treatment. Through close collaboration between cardiology and neurology, we strive to develop innovative treatment methods and sustainably improve healthcare.

We invite you to explore our website to learn more about our research projects and findings.

Kind regards,

Prof. Dr. Mathias Bähr
Spokesperson of the Heart & Brain Center Göttingen (HBCG)

Prof. Dr. Contanze Schmidt
